We get many questions about pillow cover sizing. The most common is “What size pillow cover will I need for my insert?” After this very short read, you’ll know everything there is to know about pillow sizing.
The tag of your pillow insert will often have the dimensions on it. If not, you’ll need to measure it. This is done the same was you would measure your pillow cover. Hold the corners taut and measure from top to bottom & left to right along the seam.
Measure your pillow covers without the insert inside. Lay your pillow cover flat and measure from top to bottom & left to right along the seam. Measuring from the center may give you an inaccurate measurement.
For a full, stuffed look, use a pillow insert that is 1-2 inches larger than your pillow cover. For example if your pillow cover is 17″ x 17″, use an 18” x 18” insert. If your cover is 13″x 23″ use a “14 x 24” insert. Easy, right?
Why we love pillow covers:
We love pillow covers because of the optionality they offer! They are easy to stack and store away. Just swap them when you want to change the mood and look of a room.
Tip: Buy high quality inserts- they can last a long time. If you’re a fan of karate chopped look, feather inserts are the way to go!
1) Measure your existing pillow cover or insert along the seams.
2) Use an insert that is 1″-2″ larger than the pillow cover.
That’s it! Now go forth and multiply your pillows like a pro!
